J Brooke (They/e) writes about gender and family for a widening range of magazines, newspapers, journals and anthologies.
Brooke’s work has been nominated for a 2025 Pushcart, a 2025 Best of The Net and “HYBRID” (their autobiographical essay on gender) won Columbia Journal’s 2020 Nonfiction Award
Brooke is Prose Reviews Editor at The Rumpus, and previous Nonfiction Editor for Stonecoast Review. Their MFA is from the University of Southern Maine, where they have been guest faculty.
